Add foil designs to polymer

Altered Polymer Paintbrush

In this post, we'll explore how to add some extra sparkle to your polymer clay designs with a simple project that incorporates heat transfer foil. To get started, you'll need a laser printed design using a printer with toner powder, 100% acetone, premo polymer clay, heat transfer foil (which can be found on Amazon), liquid clay and a cutter.

Begin by conditioning a thin sheet of polymer clay, and then transfer the toner print onto the polymer clay. For best results, use a darker clay color to achieve greater contrast. Place the printout face down onto the clay and burnish it, then wait 5-10 minutes. As the printout is on the clay, soak the back of the printout in acetone using a paper towel, repeating the process until the toner sticks to the clay. (You can check by gently pulling up the paper to check.)

Next, apply the heat transfer foil with the shiny side up, and burnish it. Quickly rip off the foil to reveal a beautiful, foil-embellished design. As a bonus, you can also use the negative foil image to transfer to polymer clay as well.

Using the transferred foil design on the raw polymer clay, now place it onto a baked piece of clay. (You can pre-bake shapes that you cut out with a cutter.) This method produces stunning results that are sure to impress.

Incorporating heat transfer foil into your polymer clay designs is a fun and easy way to add some extra bling. Give this project a try and see what kind of beautiful creations you can come up with!
